Open Positions: PhD Students (Fall 2025)

The Soda Lab is currently seeking PhD students for Fall 2025. Our research focuses on computational social science and social computing, leveraging large-scale data and machine learning techniques.

Research Directions

We study social phenomena through large-scale data and AI/computational tools, aiming to tackle big societal problems. Our current areas of focus include (but not limited to):

  1. Applying Large Language Models (LLMs) to simulate individual or group behavior through agents, enhancing our understanding of social dynamics.
  2. Improving AI alignment through a better understanding of human belief systems.

Q: I’m interested in developing new AI systems or ML algorithms. Is this a good fit?

A: While these are interesting research directions with significant potential, our lab places a strong emphasis on human and societal aspects. If your main interests lie on the systems side, we recommend exploring other opportunities that align more closely with your goals.

Q: Will I receive an RA-ship or TA-ship?

A: New incoming students typically enter the school with a TA-ship. RA-ships may be available based on involvement in specific projects and the availability of funds.
